We’ll have to see if the Archos 5 meets all of our needs. I need to start learning to develop for Android though, or we’ll never truly know. Any suggestions for Android programming primers? My background has been mostly in C# and NS Basic for Palm. I have done some VB.NET, Javascript, and a little Actionscript.

I love the mix of computing and adventure. If I could roam the world as a blogger, I would. Family comes first though! Cycling, gadgets, video and audio, broadcasting, discovering new music and tea, trying to make my home as comfrotable as possible for me and my family. Love. |

chippy wrote a new blog post: iPhone 4G Images? iPad? Shanzai? What IS this? 11 hours, 14 minutes ago
I just noticed this post over at UMPCFever. It’ a photo set of an iPhone 4G. Is it the first iPad unboxing?

We guess it’s some sort of Shanzai rip-off but it’s looking good anyway! Stay tuned for an update on this.

Hi Al.
Yes, we as consumers have to live with the choices google makes but OEMs need a trusted app store with monetisation to compelte their platforms. Without it they lose which, in turn, means the customers lose.
It also means that Google and alternative app stores could lose as other platforms move in to fill the [...] -
chippy wrote a new blog post: Dell Mini 5 to Come with Amazon Books, Music, Video Capability. 1 day, 9 hours ago
This makes complete sense. Google provide the application channel and Amazon provide the content channel for the Dell Mini 5. This will set it apart from the rest of the bunch so Archos are going to have to think carefully about where they go next. A raw Archos tablet with no apps and no [...]

As promised, I took a trip into my local O2 store and as usual, they wouldn’t get a Satio out for me to try. Last time I was a potential customer. This time i’m a customer. I don’t know what’s worse.
Anyway, after trotting over to the T-Mobile store and connecting to my Mifi to the [...] -

It looks like we’re finally going to order an Archos 5IT for testing as our new data collection device. Bye bye Alphasmart Dana!
We will probably order the Archos 7IT when it finally drops too. The 5 might be nice for portability in the field, but the 7 might be nicer for the keyboard and extra screen real estate in general.

Chippy,I will definitely let you know what device we choose. It will likely be a device that has your blessing. I’ve been following your posts via Twitter for most of the year (as well as JKK and Jenn @ Pocketables). I really appreciate your honest, objective reviews. Thanks!
